James D "Peerooni" Ledwell

James D. "Peerooni" Ledwell , 81 of St. Matthews died Thursday May 29, 2014 at Lexington Medical Center in West Columbia.

A Graveside Service will be held 1:00 PM Saturday, May 31, 2014 with burial at West End Cemetery in St. Matthews with Rev. Thomas B. Huggins officiating directed by Thompson Funeral Home, Inc. in Orangeburg Pallbearers will be Mark Ledwell, Craig Ledwell, Joey Bryant, Glenn Waltz, Larry Driggers, Jeffrey Driggers, Wade Waltz and Lynn Hooker.

He was born September 29, 1932 in Archdale, NC; the son of the late Jim Ledwell and the late Ethel Briles Ledwell. He served in the US Army and was retired from Lane Construction after working 54 years with road construction. He was a man of many nicknames; Peerooni, Uncle Monk and Claw. He was the widower of the late Dora Lee Driggers Ledwell.

Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law; Sheldon D. and Suzanne Ledwell of St. Matthews; Grandchildren; Sheldon M. and Megan Ledwell of St. George; Peyton Ledwell of St. Matthews; Cody Ledwell of Branchville and Shawn White of Orangeburg; a great grandson; Marshall Ledwell of St. George.

FRIENDS MAY CALL AT THE residence of Sheldon and Suzanne Ledwell; 30 Vinca Court, St. Matthews and at the funeral home.

VISITATION WILL BE HELD 7:00 to 9:00 PM Friday, May 30, 2014 at Thompson Funeral Home, Inc. in Orangeburg.
