James "Jim" Wilbur Smith, Sr.

James “Jim” Wilbur Smith, 78, of Orangeburg passed away on Monday, August 8, 2022, at TRMC after an extended illness.

Funeral services will be held at 4:00 P.M. on Thursday, August 11, 2022, at Thompson Funeral Home Chapel, 1012 Whitman Street, Orangeburg.

Burial will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, August 12, 2022, at Fort Jackson National Cemetery, 4170 Percival Road, Columbia with full military honors.

The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 P.M. on Wednesday, August 10, 2022, at Thompson Funeral Home Chapel.

Honored to serve as honorary pallbearers are Logan Smith, Terry Weeks, Jr., Marcos Contreras, Cody Fleener, Greg Sharpe, Hal Kelly and Cecil Searles.

Mr. Smith was born on January 23, 1944, in New Bern, N.C.  He was the son of the late Walter W. Smith, Sr. and the late Macie Wade Smith.  After graduating high school, he went on to serve his country in the United States Air Force, Army and Army Reserves.  He was an active member of Alcoholic Anonymous and was sober for over 40 years.  Mr. Smith gave back by helping others.  He was retired from the Waypoint Recovery Center.  He was an avid golfer.  Mr. Smith was predeceased by his parents, brothers, Walter Smith, Sr. and Joe Pat Smith.

Survivors include his children, Tina Craft (Jeff) of Cope, Jimmy Smith (Sharon Fleener) of Cordova, Crystal Weeks (Terry) of Cordova, Stephen Smith, Lynn Smith of Orangeburg; twenty grandchildren; Kaitlyn Smith, Emily Davis, Terry Weeks, Jr., Tori Kuck (Louie), Tiffany Craft, Lauren Craft, Jamey Craft, Trevor Smith, Tristen Smith, LJ Smith, Cody Fleener, Courtney Antley, Chloe Kinsey, Brianna Smith, Logan Smith, Evyn Smith, Alyssa Craig, Helen Craig, James Craig, Joey Craig; six great-grandchildren, Charlie Jane Jackson, Rylan Kuck, Landon Kuck, Brycen Kuck, Mason Kuck, Sladen Weeks; sister, Ann Gaskins of New Bern, N.C.; mother of his children, Carolyn Sue Smith of Orangeburg and a number of nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to a charity of one’s choice.
