Janie (Burke) Ackerman

Janie Burke Ackerman, 84, of Orangeburg passed peacefully at her home on Saturday, October 12, 2024.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, October 16, 2024, at Northside Baptist Church, 1250 Columbia Road, Orangeburg.  Rev. Larry Williams and Rev. Jim Parnell will be officiating.  Burial will follow at Crestlawn Memorial Gardens, 4830 Columbia Road, Orangeburg.

The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 P.M. on Tuesday, October 15, 2024, at Thompson Funeral Home Chapel, 1012 Whitman Street, Orangeburg.

Mrs. Ackerman was born in Orangeburg, S.C.  She was the daughter of the late Newton P. Burke and Clay Champy Burke.  She worked for many years alongside her sister as a lighting consultant with Lighting Creations.  Mrs. Ackerman was a life-long faithful member of Northside Baptist Church where she was also a member of the choir.  After her retirement she found joy in reading, crafting and painting. She also enjoyed traveling both within the States and abroad with friend and travel companion, Betty Dantzler. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Timrod Ackerman, a daughter, Wendy Hope Ackerman and a sister, Shirley Hughes Vaughn.

Survivors include her daughter, April A. Edwards (Hal); grandson, Harry “Tripp” Edwards; a niece and nephews and her beloved fur baby, “Bella.”

The family would like to give a special thank you to the staff of The Legacy, Jolley Acres Healthcare Center and to Grove Park Hospice for their love and support.
