Jannie Ruth Wannamaker, 75, passed away on August 11, 2025, surrounded by her family, in Lexington, South Carolina. Born on June 2, 1950, in Orangeburg, South Carolina, Jannie’s life was a testament to compassion, devotion, and unwavering love for her family.
Jannie was the cherished daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Newton and Fannie Hamilton Wannamaker, Jr., who preceded her in death. She was also predeceased by her brothers David Wannamaker, Johnny Evans, and Leroy Hamilton, as well as her sister, Betty McCoy.
She is lovingly remembered by her daughter, Patty Wannamaker Edwards; grandchildren, Rusty Wannamaker, Kimberly Wannamaker, Christopher Wannamaker, and Ashley Wannamaker; and great-grandchildren Keymijah Wannamaker, Zy'Rell Hickson, Sha'Diamond Hickson, La'Jayda Wannamaker, My'Angel Wannamaker, Juliana Brailey, Ivionna Brailey, La'Niah Brailey, Alijah Wannamaker, and Jewell Brailey Jr. Janie also leaves behind her brother, Newton Wannamaker III (Joann); sister, Diane Marchant (Herman); special friends, Jacqueline and Checo Hernandez along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends who were touched by her warmth.
A graveside service honoring her memory will be held on Friday, August 15, 2025, at 11:30 A.M. at Bethel United Methodist Church Cemetery, 4301 Charleston Highway in Orangeburg. Lay Servant, Newton Wannamaker, III will be officiating.
The family will receive friends from 10:00-11:00 A.M. at Thompson Funeral Home Chapel prior to the graveside service.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers are Rusty Wannamaker, Christopher Wannamaker, Jewell Brailey, Henry Watts, Travis Lott, David Mack and Zy’Rell Hickson.
Known for having a heart of gold, Jannie found joy in caring for others. Her nurturing spirit made her a beloved presence in the lives of many. She especially treasured her role as “Buckie” to her grandchildren—a title that brought her immense pride and happiness.
Jannie’s legacy lives through the generations she helped raise and the countless lives she brightened with her kindness.
