Jeannette G. Mixson, born August 1, 1943, in Cordova, South Carolina, passed away on Friday, September 18, 2026, after a brief illness. Her life was marked by faith, devotion, and a steady love for the people and places that mattered most to her.
A 1961 graduate of Edisto High School, Jeannette continued her education at Anderson College, where she graduated and carried forward a strong sense of purpose that would guide her throughout her life. She worked for more than 33 years at Cliff Sanders Opticians until her retirement, a testament to her dedication and perseverance.
Jeannette was a woman of deep faith who loved her church and church family. She was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church, and her Christian service left a lasting impression on many lives. Among her proudest accomplishments, she was the first female deacon at Rivelon Baptist Church and served for a year as chairwoman of the deacons. She also gave generously of herself as a Sunday School teacher, choir director, and pianist, sharing both her gifts and her heart in service to others.
Beyond her many accomplishments, Jeannette found joy in simple and meaningful moments, especially playing cards with her daughter. Those times of laughter, companionship, and love will remain treasured memories to all who knew her best.
She is survived by her husband, Thomas "Tommy" Mixson; her daughter, Teressa DuBose; and Nikki, her beloved fur baby as well as a number of nieces and nephews. She also leaves behind the enduring love of family and friends who were blessed by her presence and strengthened by her example.
Jeannette was preceded in death by her husband of over 46 years, John Wayne DuBose; her father, Jesse Garrick; her mother, Doris Garrick; her sisters, Betty Salley and Elaine Myers; and her brother, Jacob Garrick. Their memories remained an important part of her life, and now she is reunited with those who went before her.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the staff of Grove Park Home Care and Hospice, especially Sally, Nikki, Tammy, and Miss Eartha, for the love and care shown to Mrs. Jeannette during her illness.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, September 22, 2026, from 2:00 PM until 3:00 PM at Ebenezer Baptist Church, 3144 Cordova Road, Cordova, South Carolina 29039. A memorial service will follow at 3:00 PM at the church. Rev. Brian Self will be officiating.
Jeannette G. Mixson will be remembered for her faithful spirit, her loving heart, and the many ways she served others. Her life was a blessing, and her memory will continue to be cherished.
