Jerry Preston Williams, Sr. "Pops"

Jerry Preston Williams, Sr. “Pops”, 79, of the Four Holes Community experienced his homegoing on Sunday, April 25, 2021.

The family will receive friends from 2:00-3:00 P.M. on Thursday, April 29, 2021 prior to the funeral service.

Funeral services will be held at 3:00 P.M. on Thursday, April 29, 2021 at Thompson Funeral Home Chapel, 1012 Whitman Street, Orangeburg.  Rev. Bruce Fox will be officiating.  Burial will follow at Four Holes Baptist Church Cemetery, 1622 Four Holes Rd, Orangeburg.

Honored to serve as pallbearers are Blake Scott, Bobby Meek, Jerry Williams, III, Charles Smith, Joey Zilker, Chris Kizer, Michael Herndon and Jonathan Herndon.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Thorne Saulisbury, Joey Craven, Glenn Hartzog and the Berkeley County Sheriff Deputies.

Mr. Williams was born on July 22, 1941 in West Columbia, S.C.  He was the son of the late Hugh G. Williams and the late Dorothy W. Creekmore.  The things he most cherished in life were his love for God, his country, and his family.  He was a member of the Goose Creek Masonic Lodge. Mr. Williams spent a lifetime of protecting his community by serving as a Charleston County Sheriff Deputy, Goose Creek Police officer and later as a Berkeley County Sheriff Deputy where he retired from in July of 1999 as a Lieutenant.  He was an avid racing fan and was a Nascar official.  He enjoyed coaching softball, football, and baseball.  He also enjoyed fox hunting, camping, fishing, and watching the Young and the Restless.  He was known for his “secret” barbeque sauce and his catfish stew.  He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend.  He will be missed by everyone that knew him.

Mr. Williams is survived by his wife of sixty years, Vera Joan Williams of the home; children, Jerry P. Williams, Jr. (Teresa) of Ridgeville, Debbie W. Meek of the Four Holes Community, Troy D. Williams (Monica) of the Four Holes Community; seven grandchildren, Johnny Hooson, Jerry P. Williams, III, Jessica Williams, Bobby Meek, Thorne Saulisbury, Jerica Williams Scott, Berkley Williams; eleven great-grandchildren, Braden Williams, Heyward McAlhany, Traelynne McAlhany, Ben Williams, Coi Scott, Walker Williams, Kensley Meek, Emily Hooson, Jennifer Hooson, Dillon Hooson, Trip Steverson; brothers, H.E. Williams, Sr. (Vernelle), Johnny Williams (Jo); a number of nieces and nephews; brother-in-law, (Joey Craven (Charli); sisters-in-law, Jill Hartzog (Glenn), Vicky Herndon, Idell Fox (Bruce) and his fur babies, “Bo” and Dottie.”

Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, The Fraternal Order of Police or to the St. Jude Children Research Hospital.

Friends may call or come by the residence before or after the funeral service.
