John Heath Davis, 67 of Pinehill Community, Orangeburg died Tuesday, May 21, 2013 in Orangeburg
Funeral Services will be held 11:00 AM Friday, May 24, 2013 at Double Branch Baptist Church in Pinehill Community Orangeburg with burial in the church cemetery with Rev. Jimmy Fanning and Rev. Duane Woosley will be officiating, directed by Thompson Funeral Home, Inc. in Orangeburg A Reception in honor of Mr. Davis will be held afterwards for friends and family.
Pallbearers will be Rowdy Gleaton, Thomas Gleaton, Ken Lane, Carl Rawleigh, Robert Scarborough and Tommy Gibson
Honorary Pallbearers will be Jim Alligood, Ronnie Cribb, Ray Hutto, Bennie Jeffcoat, E.T. Spires and Lee Williams and the Deacons of Double Branch Baptist Church.
He was born in Orangeburg, SC; the son of the late Mr. & Mrs. Grover Heath Davis (Grace). He was a member of Double Branch Baptist church in Pinehill Community. He graduated from North High School in 1964. He served in the Army National Guard from 1967 until 1972 and was honorably discharged. John was a well-respected and successful local race car driver, who began racing at the age of 17. He participated in many Orangeburg Speedway and Edisto Raceway events. His passion for vehicles led John to start his own automotive repair business (John's Car Shop) which he owned and operated for over 40 years. He was an avid Clemson fan and enjoyed spending weekends with family and friends supporting the Clemson Tigers. John also had a flair for adventure which was evident in many of his hobbies including sky-diving, water skiing, motor cyclers and remote control flying. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by sisters; Idalia Eubanks, Faye Howze, Carol Besseche, Judy Fanning and brothers; Bill Davis, Bruce Davis.
SURVIVORS include his wife; Sarah Gleaton Davis of the home; 2 sons; Justin Davis (Chandal) of Greenville, SC and Jonathan Lindsay Davis of Houston, TX; brother; Troy Davis (Sarah) of Bossier City, LA; and sister; Patsy Miller of Lilburn, GA; 1 sister-in-law; Carolyn Davis of Nesses; 1 brother-in-law; Lee Besseche of Auburn, GA and a number of nieces and nephews.
FRIENDS MAY CALL AT the residence and at the funeral home.
VISITATION WILL BE HELD 6:00 to 8:00 PM Thursday, May 23, 2013 at Thompson Funeral Home, Inc. in Orangeburg.
