John “Jack” H. Shaffer, 86, of Orangeburg passed away on Monday, December 25, 2023, with his loving wife by his side.
The family will hold a service of remembrance at a later date in Ohio.
Mr. Shaffer was born on February 16, 1937, in Imperial, PA. He was the son of the late John Shaffer and the late Grace Crawford Shaffer. He received his undergraduate degree from Mt. Union College and his doctorate degree from the University of Akron. His love of music and teaching led him to a career of over 41 years in education. He served as a band director at Minerva High School then was appointed principal. He finished his career in education as a professor with Mt. Union College until his retirement. He also served as the choir director with First Methodist Church in Carrolton, OH for over thirty-five years.
Survivors include his wife of 62 years, Norma Langer Shaffer; sister, Joy Hutson; brothers-in-law, James Langer (Rebecca), Ray Langer (Patty); seven nieces and nephews; thirteen grand nieces and nephews.
The family would like to give a special thank you to the staff at The Oaks Rehab and to the nursing staff on the Fourth Floor and ICU at MUSC Orangeburg for the love and care that was given to Mr. Shaffer during his hospital stay.
