John J. Hughes

John J. Hughes, 83, passed away on Friday, March 15, 2023, at his home.

A private graveside service will be held at Crestlawn Memorial Gardens in Orangeburg.

Mr. Hughes was born on May 25, 1940, in Denmark SC, a son of the late John L. Hughes and Margaret Judy Hughes. He was married to his wife, Peggy Hughes, in 1960. He raised four children.  Mr. Hughes was a former member of the Bamberg National Guard and spent the rest of his life making beautiful things out of wood. He enjoyed going fishing and spending time in the garden. He is predeceased by his wife, Peggy Hughes, three brothers, L.T. Hughes, Roy Hughes, Raymond Hughes, three sisters, Margie Thomas, Marie Thomas, and Idell Davis.

Survivors include daughters, Sheri Bowers (Eddie), Cindy Breland, Kelly Hughes; a son, Randy Hughes (Maria); six grandchildren, Julie Strickland, Justin Gilliam, Joni Bowers, Jacob Breland, Lia Hughes and Jade Hughes and five great grandchildren, Brice Strickland, Kyle Strickland, Mallory Strickland, Jody Gillam and Shuler Gillam as well as a number of nieces and nephews.
