Joseph “Joey” Dewitt, a cherished member of the Orangeburg community, passed away on November 28, 2025, at the age of 68. Born on December 30, 1956, in Orangeburg, Joey dedicated over 20 years of his life to the service of his country as a proud member of the United States Navy. His military career instilled in him a profound sense of duty and honor that he carried with him throughout his life.
Joey's passion and enthusiasm extended beyond his military service. He was an avid fan of NASCAR racing and dedicated follower of Clemson Tiger football, often spending weekends cheering on his favorite teams. His love for these pastimes brought joy not only to himself but also to those who shared in his enthusiasm.
Joey's legacy continues through his loving sisters, Kaye Byrd (Lee Whisenhunt) of Orangeburg and Cindy (Robert) Timmons of Kentucky. He was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert Dewitt and Faye Collins Brill, his beloved wife, Jacqueline Easingwood, and his brother, Byrnes Dewitt. Each lost relationship shaped Joey’s life and character, and he will be remembered for his warmth and compassion by all who knew him.
His memory will remain in the hearts of family and friends alike, a testament to a life lived with dedication, love, and sportsmanship.
