Joseph Leslie Jones , 85 of Orangeburg, SC died Tuesday, March 4, 2014 at Morningside Assisted Living Funeral Services will be held 11:00 A.M. Saturday, March 8, 2014 At Highland Baptist Church in Orangeburg with burial At Jones Family Cemetery in Sawyerdale. With Rev. Stephen Broome officiating directed by Thompson Funeral Home, Inc. in Orangeburg.
Pallbearers will be Eric Rhoad, Evan Rhoad, Edward Rhoad, Ethan Rhoad, and Mitchell Jones.
Joseph Leslie Jones was born in Salley, South Carolina on February 15th, 1929, the son of the late Herbert O'Neal Jones and Lottie Levis Jones. Joe graduated from The Citadel in 1950 and was discharged from the Army in 1953. He served in the Korean War He then began his career at McCall-Thomas Engineering Company as an electrical engineer and board member. He retired in 2003. He was active in Church, Boy Scouts, the Orangeburg German-Swiss Society and the Kiwanis Club. He was a member of the First Baptist Church.
He was a kind friend to everyone. He enjoyed working with kids in Sunday School, researching his ancestry, learning to be a forester and exploring the potential uses of gadgets. He is loved by so many family, friends, and coworkers who will miss him dearly. Joe was pre-deceased by his wife; Joy Hodge Jones, son Joseph Neil Jones, sister, Helen LeCroy and brother, Herbert O'Neal Jones, Jr, and two granddaughters; Ellen and Katie.
Survivors Joe is survived by daughter; Leslie Joy Jones of Orangeburg, son; James R. (Dick) Jones of Arkansas, son , Jeffrey and wife Karrie Jones of Sharpsburg, Georgia, and son Jason (Ted) Jones and wife Charlene of Sawyerdale, South Carolina. Granddaughters; Haley, Michelle, Ryanne, Rebecca, Kathryn, Jensen, and Jailee; grandsons; Eric, Evan, Edward, Ethan, Matthew, and Mitchell; great granddaughters, Miley, Madelynn, Izabella, Alice, Pearl, Charlotte, Grace, and Cate; great grandsons; Donovan, Nicholas, Aidan, Sergio, Jack, Alex, Parker, and two more great grandchildren on the way. Friends may call at Thompson Funeral Home, Inc. in Orangeburg, S.C. Visitation will be 6:00-8:00 P.M. Friday, March 7, 2014 at Thompson Funeral Home, Inc. in Orangeburg.
