Kenneth "Kenny" Bryan Hughes

December 10, 1940 — October 13, 2023

Kenneth “Kenny” Bryan Hughes, 82, of Cordova went to be with the Lord on Friday, October 13, 2023.

Born on December 10, 1940, in Camden, New Jersey, he and his parents then moved to South Carolina. He was a graduate of Edisto High School and DeVry Technological Institute in Chicago, Illinois. Kenny went on to serve his country in the U.S. Air Force in both active and reserve duty for 4 years as an aircraft maintenance officer. He was a faithful member of Edisto Baptist Church, where he served as a deacon and the church secretary/treasurer. He retired from AT&T, formerly BellSouth, after more than 38 years of service. Kenny was skilled in building and flying remote-controlled airplanes as a member of the Barnwell County RC Club. He also enjoyed various artillery activities as a member of Mid-Carolina Gun Club. He had a green thumb which was evident by the beautiful flowers in his yard and the abundant vegetables in his vegetable garden, but what he loved most was attending and supporting his grandchildren and great-grandchildren in the activities they enjoyed.

Kenny was preceded in death by his beloved parents, Melvin Bryan Hughes and Lillian Rhodes Hughes

Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Marcia Whetstone Hughes; daughters, Bonnye Peebles (Bruce) of Myrtle Beach, S.C., Carla Fallaw (Brett) of Mt. Pleasant, S.C., and Rebecca Mount (Bert) of Cordova, S.C.; grandchildren, Ashley Axson, Courtney Peebles, Blake Fallaw, Collin Fallaw, Andrew Mount, and Lily Mount; great-grandchildren, Bryan Axson and Danyelle Axson; sister, Rose Marie O’Cain, as well as a number of cherished nieces, nephews, and extended family members.

Honored to serve as pallbearers will be Dillon Jackson, Matthew Jackson, Jeffery Whisenhunt, Ryan Smoak, Clarence Hall, and Carey Jennings.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to the MUSC Health Orangeburg ICU and the 4 West staff and Edisto Home Care & Hospice for the wonderful care they provided.

Memorials may be made to Edisto Baptist Church c/o Rose Marie O’Cain at 3578 Cannon Bridge Road, Cordova, S.C. 29039.
