Obituary

Kurt T. "Slice" Merritt, a self-employed professional in the HVAC industry, passed away on Wednesday, May 13, 2026. Born on April 27, 1969, Kurt's life was marked by his commitment to his career, and his family.

Kurt earned an associate degree, which laid the foundation for his many years of successful self-employment in the HVAC field. Known for his dedication and expertise, he built a reputation for quality service and professionalism throughout his career. Kurt had a passionate love for the Georgia Bulldogs.

Family was at the heart of Kurt’s life. He was a loving husband to Paige Smith Merritt and a devoted father to his sons, Austin Merritt (and his wife Katy) of St. Matthews, and Carter Merritt of Boston, Massachusetts. He cherished the times spent fishing with his sons and valued every moment with his family, including his grandson Michael of St. Matthews. Kurt also maintained close ties with his sister, Kim Jolley (JC) of North Carolina, as well as other family members including his mother-in-law, Shelby "Mawmaw" Clark, sister-in-law Debi Finken, and nephew, Shawn Perry.

His parents, Donald E. Merritt and Shirley Ann Taylor, preceded him in death.

A memorial service honoring Kurt’s life will be held on Wednesday, May 27, 2026, at 6:00 PM  at Thompson Funeral Home, Inc., located at 1012 Whitman St SE, Orangeburg, South Carolina, 29115.

Kurt T. Merritt will be remembered for his professional accomplishments and, more importantly, for the warmth and dedication he showed to those he loved. His legacy endures in the hearts of his family and all who were fortunate to know him.
