Lewis Otis Black

Lewis Otis Black, age 92, of Montgomery, Alabama graduated from this life on October 15, 2022.  He was born on February 27, 1930 in Barnwell County, South Carolina. He was the fourth son of Charlie Sylvester and Sina Laura Sanders Black. He grew up in and around Denmark, South Carolina and entered the United States Air Force in 1947. He participated in the Berlin Airlift and was a Veteran of the Korean Conflict attaining the rank of Staff Sargent. After an honorable discharge he applied for and accepted employment as a civil servant at the Personnel Equipment Shop, Maxwell Air Force Base where he retired after 30 years.  He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day-Saints.

Lewis is survived by his loving wife of 25 years, Mary Simpson Black; his sister-in-law and caregiver, Catherine Britt. A special thanks goes out to her for the kind and gentle care that she provided during his illness. He was also survived by two younger brothers, Willis V. , James (Margie) Black and numerous nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by four brothers and three sisters.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Thursday, October 20, 2022 at Denmark Cemetery. Memorial services will be held on Saturday, October 22, 2022 at 11:00 A.M. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Lapter-Day-Saints, near downtown Montgomery; 770 S. Court Street 36105.
