Linard O'Neal Kemmerlin, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend, departed this world on January 16, 2026, at the Colleton Medical Center, with his family by his side. Born on September 8, 1947, in Charleston, S.C., Linard exemplified the spirit of warmth and kindness.
In his career as the owner and operator of Highway 21 Sales and Service since 1989, working alongside his brother Bobby, Linard showcased not only his business sense but also his enduring belief in community relationships. His passion for his work was matched only by his affection for the people he encountered, a testament to his personality that welcomed conversation. He loved to talk and never met a stranger, creating connections that enriched the lives of those around him.
Linard was a proud United States Army veteran, having served stateside during the Vietnam War. This chapter of his life fostered within him a deep respect for his fellow men and women in service, and he carried the values of bravery and integrity with him long after his military tenure. Those who knew Linard appreciated his love for fishing and old cars, pursuits that reflected his zest for life and innate curiosity about the world.
He is survived by his beloved wife of over ten years, Ranee Barber Kemmerlin. Linard’s legacy lives on through his daughters, Edith Jackson, Gwendolyn Roberts, and Wendy Myles ("Bubba"), as well as his son, Osborne Kemmerlin (Jonni). He also leaves behind fourteen grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren, each of whom carries a piece of his heart and spirit.
Linard also is survived by his devoted sisters, Judi Hagan (Charles) and Dianne Binnicker (Chris), along with numerous nieces, nephews, family members, and friends who were touched by his generous spirit and infectious laughter.
He rejoins those who have gone before him, including his parents, Osborne and Edith Sanford Kemmerlin, who undoubtedly welcomed him with open arms, his granddaughter Jennifer Thomas, and his brothers, Robert "Bobby" Kemmerlin and Larry Kemmerlin, as well as his sister, Joyce Gue. They, too, were fortunate to experience the unwavering love and camaraderie he cherished during his lifetime.
A visitation to celebrate Linard’s life will be held on January 23, 2026, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Thompson Funeral Home, Inc., located at 1012 Whitman St SE, Orangeburg, SC, and a funeral service will follow on Saturday, January 24, 2026, at 2:00 PM. The final farewells will take place at Memorial Park Cemetery on the same day, where he will be laid to rest.
As we remember Linard O'Neal Kemmerlin, let us hold close the memory of a man whose light shone brightly in the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him. His generous spirit, robust conversations, and unyielding love will continue to resonate within our hearts and memories.
