Lois Myers Jervey, 97, of 304 Walsh Building, The Oaks, died Monday, January 12, 2015 at the Oaks. She was born on July 13, 1917 to the late C.F. Myers, Jr. and Louise Ferguson Myers in Charleston, SC.
Lois grew up on The Old Citadel Campus, graduated from Ashley Hall School and was a 1938 graduate of The College of Charleston.
On Mary 26, 1940 she married her lifelong sweetheart, the late James P. Jervey, Jr.
After World War II ended, they made their home in Orangeburg where Lois became an active member of the Episcopal Church of The Redeemer.
She sang in the choir for nearly fifty years, was an active member of St. Martha's Auxiliary and taught in the kindergarten at The Redeemer. She later joined Jimmy at Acacia Flower Shop until her retirement.
She was a charter member of the Junior Service League of Orangeburg, a member of the Eutaw Chapter of the DAR and the Orangeburg Music Club.
She is survived by her sister, Louise M. Stelling of Hendersonville, NC, her children, Mary (Tom) Scarborough, Frank Jervey and Jinny Jervey (Rick Harris), her grandchildren, Jinny L. Cherry, Max Jervey, Mark (Laura) Jervey and Catherine (Cory) Conner and great grandchildren, Madelyn Jervey, Abigail Conner, Mason Jervey, Luke Jervey, Madison Conner and Olivia Jervey.
Her children wish to thank her caregivers from Senior Solutions, The Oaks, who lovingly and unselfishly cared for her during this journey, Joan Sanders, Lillie Butler and Angie Riley and those who have joined us during this time, Annie Carey, Inez Cokley, Marie Calloway and Betty Harley.
The staff of Grove Park Hospice has been invaluable in assisting us in a nurturing and supportive manner as has Vann Beth Shuler, MD.
The memorial service will be held at the Episcopal Church of The Redeemer 2:00 PM Thursday, January 15, 2015 with the Very Reverend John Burwell Officiating. She will be interred next to Jimmy in the Columbarium at The Redeemer.
The family will receive visitors at 390 Brewton Street and after the service in the Parish Hall at The Redeemer, Russell Street.
