Lola (Sweatman) Martin

Mrs. Lola Sweatman Martin, 91, passed away peacefully on May 16, 2025, in Bamberg, South Carolina.

Born on January 17, 1934, in Orangeburg, South Carolina, Lola was the daughter of Marcus and Mary Champy Sweatman. Her life was deeply rooted in the communities of Orangeburg and Bamberg Counties, where she spent her years surrounded by family and friends.

Lola was known for her generous spirit and deep love for those around her. She found great joy in cooking for her family and friends, often bringing people together around the table with meals prepared from the heart. Her kitchen was a place of warmth and comfort, where stories were shared and memories made.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her daughter, Donna Jo Martin; sons, Hudson Dale Martin; Wendell Dean Martin; and her grandson, Devin Dempsey.

Lola leaves behind a loving family who will cherish her memory: her daughter, Brenda Hutto (Scott) of Denmark, S.C.; her sister, Aubrey Sandifer of Bamberg, S.C.; a niece, Laura Kemmerlin (Marion) of Orangeburg; and grandchildren Thomas Smith, Candice Collins, Anthony Dempsey, Kayla Skinner, Coby Martin, and Matthew Martin.

The family would like to give a heart felt thank you to her caregiver, Lottie Bey for the wonderful care and love that she gave Lola over the past several years and to Pruitt Health Bamberg for the care and kindess they showed the last few weeks.

May the memory of Mrs. Lola Sweatman Martin bring comfort to all who knew and loved her.
