Loretta Joanne (Russell) Hicks

Loretta Joanne Hicks, 77, of Orangeburg passed away on Thursday, July 18, 2024, after an extended illness.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Tuesday, July 23, 2024, at the Church of God in Holly Hill, 681 Bayview Street, Holly Hill.  Pastor Phillip Vaughn will be officiating.  Burial will follow at Russell Family Cemetery, off of Bayview Street in Holly Hill.

The family will receive friends from 10:00-11:00 A.M. on Tuesday, July 23, 2024 at Thompson Funeral Hone Chapel, 1012 Whitman Street, Orangeburg prior to the funeral service at the Church of God in Holly Hill.

The family will also receive friends from 1:30-2:00 P.M. at the Church of God in Holly Hill prior to the funeral service.

Honored to serve as pallbearers are William Butler, Perry Russell, Fred Russell, Jr., Luis Romero, Dennis Russell and Gary Bolton.

Mrs. Hicks was born on July 22, 1946, in Holly Hill.  She was the daughter of the late Perry Russell and the late Carrine Platt Russell.  She was employed for many years in the Orangeburg area until her retirement from K-Mart in the electronics department.  Loretta had many hobbies including watching Western movies, researching the Indian heritage and being with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  Her favorite thing was being a “Nanny.”  She was preceded in death by her parents. A sister, Mamie Russell Huiett and a brother, Orna Russell.

Survivors include her children, Fred Russell of Cordova, Charles Williams (June) of Cope, Melanie Butler (William) of Lexington; grandchildren, Perry Russell (Skyler), Fred Russell, Jr. (Nhi), Madeline Romero (Luis); great-grandchildren, Parker Russell, Presley Russell, Adeline Romero, Jasmine Romero; sister, Dorothy Sharpe (Ronnie) of Sumter; brother, Ronnie Russell of Orangeburg and a number of nieces and nephews.
