Lynwood Dwight Stillinger, a beloved husband, father, and grandfather passed away peacefully on December 26, 2025, at MUSC in Charleston, surrounded by his loving family. Born on October 15, 1947, in Norway, South Carolina, Dwight dedicated his life to the people he loved, and his story is one marked by devotion, pride, and an unwavering spirit.
A proud veteran of the United States Army, Dwight served honorably during the Vietnam War, demonstrating the courage and commitment that would characterize his entire life. After returning home, he became the owner and operator of Dwight’s Body Shop in Orangeburg, a venture that not only showcased his talents for restoring cars but also became a well-respected part of the community he cherished.
Dwight’s personality was radiant, characterized by his immense love for his family. His children were truly his life, and he approached fatherhood with a fierce passion, always ready to cheer his children on in every endeavor. He found incomparable joy in their lives and achievements, and nothing brought him more pride than watching his family grow. Among those who survive him are his beloved wife, Cynthia “Cindy” S. Stillinger, who shared countless memories and moments with him in their home, and his cherished children: Lisa (Shane) Stillinger Knight, Kim Stillinger, Elizabeth (Gaylon) King, and Sharon Martin all of whom were a source of tremendous happiness.
As a grandfather, Dwight’s heart swelled with pride and affection for his grandchildren: Lakin Amaker, Linsey Amaker, Lexie Amaker, Mia Weeks, Jayla Bowman, Carrington Bowman, Justin Martin and Patricia Bundrick . He embraced his role, showering them with love and guidance, ensuring they felt supported as they pursued their dreams.
In addition to his immediate family, Dwight is survived by his dear sisters, Patsy (Carl) Brechlin of Bolentown and Elizabeth “Lib” Gleaton of Orangeburg, along with a number of nieces, nephews, and additional family and friends who will hold him close in their hearts.
Dwight found pleasure in his hobbies, especially rooting for the USC Gamecocks, illustrating his spirited nature and love for sports. His passion for restoring cars became a cherished pastime, allowing him to connect with others over shared interests and friendships built over the years.
Preceding him in death were his parents, Herman D. Stillinger and Aileen Fanning Stillinger, who instilled in him the values of hard work, integrity, and love for family that remained with him throughout his life as well as two sisters, Vivian Fogle and Shirley Parler and 4 brothers, Joe, David, Carroll, and Danny Stillinger.
