Major James Francis Haynes , 83 passed away on Monday, December 9, 2013 at his home in Orangeburg, SC.
A Memorial Service will be held 2:00 PM Friday, December 13, 2013 at Thompson Funeral Home Chapel in Orangeburg with Rev. Jim Parnell officiating.
Maj. Haynes was born December 29, 1929 in San Francisco, CA; the son of the late Colonel Allen Francis Haynes and the late Katheryn LaCosta Haynes. Maj. Haynes grew up on military bases around the world. He graduated from the public schools of Washington, DC in 1947. After high school he attended college for two years in Washington, DC prior to enlistment in the United States Army. Major Haynes joined the army in 1949 and served for thirty-one years. He valiantly served several tours of duty during the Vietnam War and was a recipient of the Purple Heart. He was honorably discharged following a retirement ceremony on September 1, 1970, achieving the rank of Major. He began work for the Regional Medical Center as a chief security officer where he worked until his retirement on December 5, 2003. He first married in 1952 and from that union two lovely daughters were born. Major Haynes later married Lillian Daniels Haynes. He warmly accepted her child Stephonne as his child. James and Lillian's union produced another daughter, Stacey. He enjoyed collecting army paraphilia, NASCAR memorabilia and M&M peanuts car.
Major Haynes is survived by his spouse; Lillian of Orangeburg, SC; his daughters, Linda (Jerry, deceased) Moore of Eastover, NC; CiCi Lynne (Bobby) Scott of Autryville, NC; Stacey A. Daniels of Rock Hill, SC; son, Stephonne Daniels of Orangeburg, SC; his grandchildren, Raymond Tityk, Kim (Chris) Baxley, John Haynes, Tiffany Young, Brandi Young, Hailee Scott, LaShawn Woolridge; his great-grandchildren; Jacob Tityk, Hayden Baxley, Tristen Haynes, Wsley Haynes, Alexiah Haynes, Isabilla Hayes, Olivia Williams and Tyler Williams; and a host of nieces and nephews and other relatives. Major Haynes also leaves behind his furry, four- legged grand- dog, Lexi.
Visitation will be held 1:00 to 2:00 PM before the Memorial Service on Friday, December 13, 2013 at the funeral home.
