Marguerite B. Southerland, 96, passed away on Friday, June 17, 2016 at the Calhoun Convalescent Center in St. Matthews.
A funeral service will be held in Portsmouth, VA and burial will follow in Oak Grove Cemetery in Portsmouth, VA.
Mrs. Southerland was born on June 17, 1920 in Portsmouth, VA. She was the daughter of the late Willis Bell and the late Junietta Owens Bell. Mrs. Southerland served as an Army Nurse in World War II. She was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Orangeburg. She was predeceased by her husband, Lt. Col. (ret.) John T. Southerland and her daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Leslie Wiles.
Survivors include her son and daughter-in-law John and Betsy Southerland of Conyers, GA and their children, Andy, Heather and Christopher; her son Daniel Southerland of St. Matthews, S.C. and his children Carol Southerland and Sarah Southerland and her husband Tim Frietas of Brooklyn, New York; a sister Hilda Brush and a number of nieces and nephews.
