Marion “Gene” Eugene Stanfield, Jr., 71, passed away on Sunday, October 6, 2024.
He was born on July 4, 1953. He was the son of the late Marion Eugene Stanfield and Birdie Staley Stanfield of Cameron. He was born and raised in Cameron but resided in the Orangeburg area. As a teenager he fell in love with a passion for music. Through the years he performed throughout the southeast playing many venues. He was also a member of Cornerstone Community Church and played on the praise and worship team band. He had been a ham radio operator for over 30 years plus his years with FCC call sign KC4ZZI which everyone knew him as “Geno” on the air. He was also a member of E.A.R.S. which is the Edisto Amateur Radio Society located in Orangeburg. He was a member of the S.C.S.S.B.net known as the South Carolina Single Side Band.net. and S.C.A.R.S the South Coast Amateur Radio Service. For most of his life he worked in wholesale to retail route sales, Tom’s snack foods, Berry Wholesale and in store operations.
He is survived by his daughter, Lisa (Barry) Altman of Belton, TX; three grandsons, Austin (Ivory) Crawley, Dillon (Madison) Sanders and Dalton Sanders all of Orangeburg; two great-granddaughters, Paisley Crawley and River Crawley; two sisters, Emily Zeigler of St. Matthews and Cathy Hayes of Ninety-Six; nieces, Kim (Tim) Miller of St. Matthews, Polly Anne (Chad) Spainhour of Hartsville, Jamie (Jason) Cunningham of Ninety-Six, Jennifer (Jason) Brummett of Galivants Ferry; nephew, Jonathan (Ashley) Zeigler of St. Matthews and many additional great-nieces, great nephews and additional family and friends.
A special thanks to Lavern Stanfield for his support and help also a special thanks to the staff, nurses and doctors with the Mabry Cancer Center.
A visitation will be held at from 11:00 A.M. until 12:30 P.M. on Wednesday, October 9, 2024, at Thompson Funeral Home Chapel, 1012 Whitman Street, Orangeburg.
Funeral services will be held at 12:30 P.M. on Wednesday, October 9, 2024, at Thompson Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. James Lewis will be officiating. Burial will follow at Cameron Cemetery.
Honored to serve as pallbearers are Austin Crawley, Dillon Sanders, Dalton Sanders, James Sanders, Barry Altman, Jonathan Zeigler, Tim Miller and Alan Williamson.
