Marion Brooks Jackson, Jr. passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 4, 2026. Born August 23, 1935, in Orangeburg, SC, Brooks resided here for the majority of his life.

Brooks was a devoted follower of Jesus Christ and a lifelong member of Prospect Southern Methodist Church Orangeburg, where he also taught Sunday School for many years. Once homebound and unable to attend, Brooks met regularly with his pastor, faithfully read and studied his Bible, and prayed daily. Friends and family all knew Brooks to be a man characterized by kindness, humility, joy, and gentleness – hallmarks of these lifelong habits of following his Lord and Savior, Jesus.

After graduating from Orangeburg high school, Brooks served with honor in the US Air Force from 1954-1957. He loved sharing cherished memories of his travels and fellow soldiers in the military. Following this service, he joined the US Air Force Reserves, where he was sent to Japan, Alaska, and Greenland. Again, he relished sharing with family and friends his fascinating stories from some remote places where he served as a radio operator.

After his honorable discharge from the US Air Force, Brooks attained training in electrical engineering and began his career with McCall-Thomas Engineering of Orangeburg. He contributed more than 30 years of dedicated work and leadership there before retiring in 2000.

Throughout his life, Brooks pursued many and varied hobbies and interests including photography, history, stamp collecting, coin collecting, gun collecting, reloading, and genealogy. He enjoyed much camaraderie and many happy years pursuing these interests through his memberships in the Orangeburg Historical Society and the Mid-Carolina Gun Club of Orangeburg. Well-read and ever curious, Brooks exemplified a love of learning that enriched his own life as well as others.

Brooks devotion to family was steadfast. While never having children of his own, he was devoted to his extended family and was a major influence on their lives in many ways. He maintained contact as much as possible with cousins and their families as well and reminisced especially fondly of childhood and young adult years spent with them. Brooks is survived by his only sister’s children and grandchildren: nieces, Cindy Steiner (Bob) and Donna Bobinski (Mitch); nephew, Byron Coffin, IV (Donna); and by his great nieces and nephews: Justin Steiner, Jackson Bobinski, Joshua Bobinski, Jessica Coffin, Byron Coffin, V (Luciana), Katie Pendleton (Graham), and Kassidy Coffin. Each held a special place in his heart and he in theirs.

Brooks is predeceased by his father, Marion Brooks Jackson, Sr.; his mother, Mary Marguerite Smoak; and his sister, Carolyn Jean Coffin.

A celebration of life service honoring Marion Brooks Jackson, Jr. will be held on Saturday, August 8, 2026, 10am at Prospect Southern Methodist Church. This service will be followed by a time of greeting family at the church.
