Marjorie M. Layfield, 79, passed away on Sunday, October 25, 2026.
Born on April 10, 1947, Marjorie lived a life marked by care for others, devotion to family, and thoughtful attention to the people she loved. She worked as a registered nurse for many years and retired from Bamberg Hospital, a vocation that reflected her steady compassion and commitment to serving others. In addition to her nursing career, she and her late husband owned an antique store, sharing in a venture that added another meaningful chapter to their life together. Marjorie will be remembered for the way she nurtured family connections. She believed in keeping in touch with family and was known for always remembering everyone’s birthday, a simple but lasting expression of her love and thoughtfulness. Those gestures, offered faithfully over the years, became part of the warmth she brought to the lives of so many.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert Glenn McCracken and Eula B. Glenn McCracken; by her husband, Kenneth D. Layfield; by her sisters, Barbara Cope and Carol McCracken; by her brother, Robert McCracken, Sr. (Kathleen), her brother-in-law, Steve Layfield, her nephew, Robert McCracken, Jr. and a niece, Susan R. Cope.
Marjorie is survived by a loving circle of family, including her nephew, David Cope of Lexington; her nieces, Mindy Imperati (Darryl) of Simpsonville; Martha Ann Oliver (Andy); her great-nephews, Austin Cope and Dillon Cope both of Orangeburg, John Robert Cope of Lexington; Anderson Oliver and Marshall Oliver, both of Charleston, Justin Cope of St. Matthews; her great-nieces, Hannah Imperati of Columbia and Tiffany Williams of St. Matthews; her sister-in-law, Kathleen McCracken of Conway; and her brother-in-law Claude Layfield (Leigh) of Alabama.
She will be remembered with affection and gratitude by all who were blessed to know her, and her memory will remain a cherished part of her family’s life.
