Mary Lynd Heape, a cherished sister, niece, and friend, departed this life on January 21, 2026, at the age of 65. Born on June 21, 1960, in Orangeburg, Mary Lynd embraced life with an unwavering spirit, exemplified through her remarkable character.
For over 25 years, Mary Lynd dedicated herself to her career at the Cock and Bull in Orangeburg, where she not only worked tirelessly but also created an atmosphere filled with joy and camaraderie. Those who frequented the establishment often found in her a friend, as Mary Lynd never met a stranger; her love for conversation drew people in, and her laughter was contagious. Her presence was a bright light, and her ability to connect with others will be dearly missed.
Despite the challenges she faced, including a courageous 30-year battle with Multiple Sclerosis, Mary's positive outlook on life remained steadfast. She approached each day with resilience, demonstrating to those around her the power of strength even in the face of adversity. Her love for working with plants was a testament to her nurturing spirit; cultivating growth and beauty reflected her approach to life and relationships.
Mary leaves behind her sister, Laura "Jamie" Heape of Cameron, and her dear aunt, Emily Heape of Orangeburg. She also leaves a number of cousins and friends whose lives were enriched by her kindness and infectious personality.
She is preceded in death by her devoted parents, James and Frances Fogle Heape, all of her grandparents, Dan and Mary "Nanny" Fogle and William "Bill" and Lynd Heape. While they have left this earthly realm, their love and memories will forever dwell in Mary Lynd's heart, a quiet reassurance in the great tapestry of life that continues to connect them.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Saturday, February 21, 2026, at St, Matthews Lutheran Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 10:00-11:00 A.M. on Saturday, February 21, 2026, at St. Matthews Lutheran Church in the social hall.
