Maxine Fort Bates, 80 of 231 Bates Road; Orangeburg died Saturday, November 1, 2014 at Agape Hospice House in Columbia.
The Family will recieve friends one hour before the service at the church.
Funeral Services will be held 3:00 PM Monday, November 3, 2014 at St. George Baptist Church in Orangeburg with burial in the church cemetery directed by Thompson Funeral Home, Inc. in Orangeburg, with Rev. Brad Chandler officiating.
Pallbearers will be Billy Fort, Brad Antley, Steven Tapping, Joby Geiger, Donald Garrick and Stuart Pettit.
She was born July 30, 1934 in Orangeburg County, SC; the daughter of the late Johnny Fort and the late Lessie Young Fort. She was a member of St. George Baptist Church. She was co-owner and retired from Bates Variety Store.
Survivors include her husband; Halbert G. Bates of the home; 1 brother; John Wilton Fort of Cope; 4 sisters-in-law; many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends at the residence of Margaret and Gene Pettit; 218 Hickory Hill Road; Orangeburg.
VISITATION will be held from 2:00 to 3:00 before the service at the church.
