Obituary

Mazie Pratt Smith, a beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, July 9, 2026. She was born on July 3, 1946, in Holly Hill, South Carolina—a place she cherished and called home throughout her remarkable life.

Mazie’s journey began in the warm embrace of her parents, O’Neal and Ida Martin Pratt, who instilled in her the values of love, faith, and resilience. Growing up in Holly Hill, Mazie formed deep bonds with her siblings and developed the steadfast spirit that would guide her in all of life’s chapters.

Throughout her life, Mazie was a pillar of strength and support for her family. She shared a devoted marriage with her late husband, David Smith, Sr., and together they raised a loving family, despite also knowing the pain of loss with the passing of their son, Jessie Smith. Mazie’s legacy lives on through her surviving children: David Smith, Jr., Kenneth Smith, and Kayla Smith. Her nurturing heart extended to her grandchildren—Taylor Hinshaw (Corey), Kenzie Miller, and Kamya Miller—and her great-grandchild, Ky'Mere Williams, who each brought her immense joy and pride.

Mazie was a cherished sister to Lillie Russell, Bea Black (Dennis), Lola Pratt (Jack), Cathy Knotts, and her brothers Oscar "AZ" Pratt, Sidney Pratt (Jeannette), Lonzo Pratt (Patsy), and Neal Pratt.

She was also predeceased by her beloved siblings Jimmy Pratt, Larnell Pratt, and Thelma Minton, everlasting ties that remain unbroken in memory and love.

Mazie’s warmth radiated beyond family. She was a devoted friend and community member whose kindness and spirit touched many. Those who had the privilege of knowing her will remember her compassionate presence, her ability to listen, and her unwavering encouragement.

A visitation in honor of Mazie will be held on Sunday, July 12, 2026, from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm at the Church of God of Evening Light, located on Bayview Street in Holly Hill, SC. The funeral service will follow at the same location, beginning at 1:00 pm. Burial will take place afterwards. All who knew Mazie, whose lives she enriched, are welcome to attend and pay their respects.

Mazie Smith’s legacy is marked by her extraordinary devotion to her family, her enduring kindness, and the many lives she touched through her unwavering love. Though she has departed from this world, her memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
