Mcteer Brown

Mr. McTeer Brown, affectionately known as Mac, 87, of Orangeburg, passed on peacefully to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus, on Sunday, August 9, 2015, at his daughter's residence, with his loving family at his side.

Born October 31, 1927, at home in Sardinia, SC, he was a son of the late Reverend Robert Roy Brown, Pastor of Sardinia Presbyterian Church, and the late Bessie McTeer Brown. He was a 1944 graduate of Berkely High School. Following high school, Mac moved to Washington, DC. He attended George Washington University while employed by the FBI. Then he was drafted into the United States Navy and served his Country proudly during World War II. When he returned home, he graduated from USC in 1950, with a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, and later in 1977, received his Master's degree in Finance from LSU Banking School of the South. Mac retired from South State Bank, formerly First National Bank, in 1993, as Bank Auditor and Vice-President, after 33 years of dedicated service. He was a faithful member of St. Andrews United Methodist Church serving on the Finance Committee for many years.

McTeer loved swimming, water skiing, duck hunting & fishing, dancing, and golfing. In 1962, he was President of Cavalier Dance Club. In retirement in 1993, he was a member of the Hillcrest Golf Club Seniors and Santee National Golf Club Senior Circuit. For over forty years, he enjoyed the annual family reunion beach trip with family and friends held at Garden City Beach, SC.

Survivors are his loving wife of 58 years, Peggy Reed Brown of the home; his only daughter, his "Sweetie", Donna Brown Hendrix (Allen, III) of Orangeburg, SC; a grandson, Zachary David Hendrix of Orangeburg, SC; a sister, Betty Brown McNaull of Ft. Lauderdale, FL; sisters-in-law, Doris C. Brown (late Arthur Brown) of Manning, SC; JoAnn D. Brown (late George Brown) of Ft. Walton Beach, FL; and Dolly Reed Friday (late J. Ray Reed & Roger Friday) of Swansea, SC; numerous nieces and nephews; and great-nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was pre-deceased in death by: R. Roy Brown, Jr. (Moncks Corner, SC); Arthur Brown (Manning, SC); George S. Brown (Ft. Walton Beach, Fla.).

Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, August 12, 2015, in the Chapel of Thompson Funeral Home, with the Reverend David Caughman officiating. Burial will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Honored to serve as pallbearers are Charlie James, Tom Bonnett, J. Marcus Reed (nephew), and Jerry Wuenscher. Honorary Pallbearers are his nephews, Robert (Robb) A. Brown of Niceville, FL, and Robert (Rob) G. Matthis of Lansing, MI; and his cousin, Henry Clyde McTeer of Columbia, SC. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday from 10:00 a.m. until the funeral hour. All other times, friends may call at the residence of Donna and Allen Hendrix.

The family requests those wishing may make memorial contributions, in Mac's memory, to St. Andrews United Methodist Church, 1980 Columbia Road, Orangeburg, SC.

McTeer loved life and his family; his gentle spirit, sense of humor, and loving-kindness will not be forgotten.

The Brown-Hendrix family expresses a deep gratitude for the services of Regency Hospice, especially his nurse, Chris Nettles, R.N., for the countless hours of dedication and compassion, and his private sitters: Inez Cokley and Ladeidra Brown.
