Dr. Rev. Oliver Joe Murphy, Sr. 83 of Canaan Community, Cope, SC died Saturday, June 11, 2016 at Riverside Rehab and Healthcare in Orangeburg.
The casket will be placed in the church one hour before the service
Funeral Services will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday, June 15, 2016 at Canaan Baptist Church in Canaan Comm., Cope with burial in the church cemetery with Rev. Alan Woodward officiating directed by Thompson Funeral Home, Inc. in Orangeburg.
Pallbearers will be John Pate, Harry Hiott, Damon Murphy, Clinton Metts, Buddy Myers and Dukes Proctor
He was born May 31, 1933 in Duncan, SC; the son of the late Fritz Murphy and the late Lois Bridges Murphy. He received a Doctorate Degree from Campbell University in North Carolina. He was retired from Delavan in Bamberg and was a retired minister. He served in the US Air Force and was a member of First Baptist Church of Bamberg. Rev. Murphy was the widower of the late Grace Murphy and was preceded in death of a son; Oliver Joe "Joey" Murphy, Jr. and by a brother; Phillip Wayne Murphy.
Survivors include a son; Michael R. Murphy of Cope; 2 daughters; Belinda M. (Jimmy) Myers of Cordova and Melissa M. (Shannon) Zimmerman of Norway; 6 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren and a sister-in-law; Peggy Murphy of Orangeburg.
Friends may call at the residence of Jimmy and Belinda Myers; 2941 Cannon Bridge Road; Cordova, SC 29039 and at the funeral home.
Visitation will be held 6:00 to 8:00 PM Monday, June 13, 2016 at Thompson Funeral Home, Inc. in Orangeburg.
