Opal Chambless O'Cain, 87, of Four Holes Community died Thursday, April 16, 2015 at the Regional Medical Center after a brief illness.
*The casket will be placed in the church 1 hour prior to the service The funeral will be held at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, April 19, 2015 at Four Holes Baptist Church in Orangeburg with burial at Four Holes Baptist Church Cemetery. Rev. Tom McElhaney will be officiating.
Pallbearers are Steven Fulmer, Mike O'Cain, George Fulmer, Bruce O'Cain, William Porter, Webb Porter, Sims Porter, Kitt Fulmer, Chris O'Cain, Billy Glover, Roy Zeigler, R.L. Zeigler Honorary Pallbearers are The Adult #5 Sunday School Class, Hoe and Hope Garden Club and Monday Night Bridge Club
Mrs. O'Cain was born on February 15, 1928 in Florence, S.C. daughter of the late George Webster Chambless and the late Minnie Till Chambless. She was a member of the Four Holes Baptist Church, the Adult #5 Sunday School Class, the Hoe and Hope Garden Club and the Monday Night Bridge Club. She was the widow of the late John Elbert O'Cain. She was predeceased by a son, John Elbert (Johnny) O'Cain, Jr. two brothers Roy H. Chambless and John Henry Chambless; two sisters Eula Mae Fulmer and Mary Zeigler.
Opal grew up in Florence, after her marriage to John they lived in Orangeburg. She and her husband relocated to Washington, D.C. where she worked for the Department of the Army at Fort Belvoir, VA. They returned to Orangeburg, S.C. after her retirement. Opal was a loving mother and grandmother. She was always joyful and worked in her yard. She grew beautiful roses. She loved her family and her family of friends with whom she shared her famous six layer cakes. She loved playing cards and taking trips with her friends.
Survivors include a son Baylor (Kathie) O'Cain of Bluffton, S.C.; a daughter, Peggy O'Cain (Stephen) Borusovic of Fernandina Beach, FL; a grandaughter, Stephanie M. (Carter) Hammond of Lynd Hurst, NJ; a brother-in-law Buster Zeigler of Orangeburg and a number of nieces and nephews.
Friends may call at the residence.
Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 P.M. Saturday, April 18, 2015 at Thompson Funeral Home, Inc. in Orangeburg.
