Paul Hayne Baldwin, Jr., 91 of Orangeburg passed away Wednesday, November 4, 2015

A Graveside Service will be held 2:00 PM Sunday, November 8, 2015 at Memorial Park Cemetery in Orangeburg with full Military Honors including Military Chaplain directed by Thompson Funeral Home, Inc. in Orangeburg.

Pallbearers will be U. S. Army Military.

He was born on April 16, 1924 and was a son of the late Paul Hayne Baldwin Sr. and the late Ethel Blewer Baldwin. He was called by several names: "Charlie", "Little Bum" and "Pud". His father wanted to name him "Charlie" and called him that; his brother Arthur called him"Little Bum", and the girls called him "Pud" as he was known to be "sweet as puddin". He fell in love with Jeanette Manuel, a girl from Ulmer who caught his eye as an attractive student nurse who tended to him during a brief hospital stay. They married on March 13,1943 and had four children.

Paul served in the U.S. Army from 1942-1965 to include overseas tours in Japan and Korea. He achieved the rank of master sergeant, serving in various assignments some of which are still classified. His favorite role was that of drill sergeant- one which he often carried over into his private life in the raising of his four active children. He loved fishing, gardening, and eating Jeanette's home-cooked meals. His many beagles were named either Sparky or Dixie. His language was often colorful and his tomatoes were renown for their flavor(tomato sandwiches:) He was predeceased by his parents, his beloved wife, Jeanette of 55 years before her death in 1998, his sister Christine, his brother, Arthur, and a very talented and sweet granddaugher, Lauren Elizabeth.

Survivors include his 4 children: Paula (Jim) Carson of Anderson, SC; Roberta (Tom) Henderson of Prosperity, SC; Chuck (Nancy)Baldwin of Tifton, GA and Paul "Bubba" Baldwin of Cordova. He had 4 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.

Friends may call at the funeral home.

Visitation will be held 12:30 to 1:30 PM Sunday, November 8, 2015 at Thompson Funeral Home Chapel in Orangeburg before the Graveside Service.
