Peggy Ann (Proveaux) Murray Tomson, a beloved matriarch, passed away peacefully on December 21, 2025, surrounded by her family. Born on December 25, 1947, Peggy filled her years with love, laughter, and a relentless passion for life that resonated with all who knew her.
Peggy's education at Orangeburg Calhoun Technical College set her on a path that led to a fulfilling career in the medical field. She dedicated many years of her life to the Regional Medical Center, serving with compassion in the vascular lab, where her warmth and kindness touched the lives of countless patients.
An avid shopper with a keen eye for antiques, Peggy's love for consignment shopping reflected her unique and vibrant personality. She found joy in discovering treasures, and her enthusiasm for life was contagious, inspiring those around her to appreciate the beauty in the small things.
Peggy is survived by her son, Wyman (Angelia) Murray of Orangeburg. Peggy was known as "Grandma Peggy," a title she held dear to her heart. Her grandchildren, Jordan (Ben) Hutto of Bamberg, Hali (James) Folk of Blackville, and Samantha (Logan Hughes) Murray, were the light of her life, and she cherished every moment spent with them. Additionally, Peggy took great joy in her role as a great-grandmother to Huntley, Giles, L.J., Wade, Harper, and Garrett, who brought her immense pride and happiness. She also leaves behind her sister, Cheryl Ashworth and an extensive network of family and friends who will forever hold her memory in their hearts.
She now joins her parents, Okley Proveaux and Lois Schell Proveaux; her first husband, Albert O. Murray; her second husband, Chester Tomson; her daughter, Cynthia Ann Murray; her son, Albert Okley Murray; her brothers, Charles Proveaux, Randy Proveaux, and James Proveaux; and her sister, Jeanie Kay Hudson, who have all preceded her in death. The love Peggy shared and the memories created will continue to live on in the hearts of those she leaves behind.
A visitation in her honor will be held on Friday, December 26, 2025, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, followed by a funeral service at 2:00 PM, both taking place at the Thompson Funeral Home, Inc. in Orangeburg, SC. Burial will follow at Crestlawn memorial Gardens.
Memorials may be made to World Faith Center at 593 Neeses Highway Orangeburg, S.C. 29115.
