Ralph Edward Hughes, Sr., 84, of Orangeburg passed away Friday, November 8, 2024.

Mr. Hughes was born in Cope, S. C. He was the son of the late Morgan Ansel Hughes and the late Dorothy Patrick Hughes. Mr. Hughes retired from Dixie Wood Craft after thirty-five years. Upon his retirement he later went on to work at Bimbo Bakery for five years.  Mr. Hughes refinished all the wood at the Holy Catholic Church. He enjoyed fishing, camping, cars, trucks, and his special dog, “Boogie”.  Mr. Hughes attended The Word of God Fellowship in Cordova, S. C. He was predeceased by his parents, his wife, Marie Hughes, brothers, Ricky Barr, David Barr (Joy), James Lewis Barr (Ruth), and Howard Barr.

Survivors include his daughter, Linda Marie Beach (Mark); sons, Ralph E. “Eddie” Hughes (Teresa), Joey Gilliam (Leona), Lonnie Blackwelder (Liza); grandchildren, Jeff Gibson (Missy), Curtis Hughes, Shane Gibson (Sheri), Stacey Marie Poston (James), Morgan Byrd (Josh), Zack Gibson (Kaitlin), Logan Hughes, M. J. Beach, Aaron Beach, Jennifer Maire Seagers, Amanda Thompson (Jessie), Kayla Segree (Scott); twenty-five great grandchildren; fourteen great, great, grandchildren.

Services will be held on Friday, November 15, 2024, at 2:00 P.M. at Thompson Funeral Home, 1012 Whitman St., Orangeburg, S. C. with visitation at 1:00 P.M. prior to the service. Pastor Kenny Baltzegar will be officiating. Burial follow at Crestlawn Memorial Gardens, 4830 Columbia Rd., S. C., Orangeburg, S. C.

Honored to serve as pallbearers are Jeff Gibson, Shane Gibson, Zack Gibson, Curtis Hughes, Logan Hughes, and Kenny Gibson.

Honorary pallbearers are Joey Gibson, Lonnie Blackwelder, and lifetime best friend, William Murphy.

Memorials may be made to The Word of God Fellowship Church, 1538 Legrand Smoak St., Cordova, S. C.
