Obituary

If you knew Randy Benjamin Furtick, chances are you have a story about him.

Maybe he coached your baseball team. Maybe he delivered bread to your business. Maybe he dropped off sausage along his route and stayed to talk longer than he planned. Maybe you worshiped beside him at church or heard him sing at a wedding or funeral. Or maybe you simply met him somewhere along the way and left feeling like you had known him for years.

Randy passed away at his home on Friday, May 22, 2026, at the age of 70.

He leaves behind his sons, Matthew Benjamin Furtick of Cordova and Randy Christopher Furtick (Vanessa) of Anderson; his beloved granddaughter, Abbygale Furtick of Orangeburg; his sister, Belinda Furtick Hutto of Orangeburg; his niece, Melissa Leigh Hutto of Orangeburg; and his former wife, Sandra Coleman Furtick of Cordova. Furtick also leaves behind over a dozen nieces and nephews who knew him affectionately as “Uncle Randy.”

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ben and Lurline Furtick, and his brothers, Busco Furtick, Larry Furtick, and Roger Thomas. Additionally, he was preceded in death by his best friend, Richard Fogle. Randy and Ricky shared a friendship that began in childhood and endured for a lifetime.

Born and raised in Orangeburg, Randy built friendships early in life that lasted for decades. His years playing sports, including Post 4 baseball, created bonds that never faded and reflected the kind of loyalty he carried throughout his life.

Randy truly never met a stranger. Conversation came naturally to him, whether he was speaking with a lifelong friend or someone he had just met. He had a gift for making people feel welcome, valued, and included.

Over the years, he became known by many names: Coach Randy, The Bread Man, The Sausage Man, and The Music Man. Each nickname represented a different chapter of his life, but all reflected the same person—someone who enjoyed engaging others, building relationships, and leaving people better than he found them. Whether coaching youth baseball, delivering bread and sausage throughout the region, or sharing his voice in churches, weddings, and funerals, Randy built lasting relationships wherever he went.

He loved the outdoors, enjoyed hunting and fishing, and earned multiple awards for both pursuits. He also enjoyed spending time on the golf course with his friends. Yet no hobby or accomplishment mattered more to Randy than the people he loved.

Randy was fiercely loyal, deeply protective, and always ready to help when someone he cared about needed him. Family and friends knew they could depend on him, and many did. Randy had another moniker that those that were the very closest to him would use, “Blue”; a nickname he inherited from his father Ben.

The family invites friends and loved ones to celebrate Randy’s life during visitation on Tuesday, May 26, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at Thompson Funeral Home and at the Celebration of Life service on Wednesday at noon at Double Branch Baptist Church, 3567 Neeses Highway, Orangeburg, South Carolina, with Pastor Wayne Ellis officiating.

Additionally, the family is receiving friends at his son Matthew’s home in Cordova.
