Rene Abraham Mizell, Jr., 83, of Cope, passed away on Wednesday, February 7, 2024.
The family will receive friends from 3:00-5:00 P.M. on Saturday, February 10, 2024, at Thompson Funeral Home, 1012 Whitman St., Orangeburg, S. C. Friends may also call at the residence. Graveside services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Sunday, February 11, 2024, at Jerusalem United Methodist Church Cemetery in Elloree, S. C. Rev. Rick Atkinson will be officiating and Mr. Harry Collins will be giving the eulogy.
Honored to serve as pallbearers are Mr. Mizell’s nephews.
Honorary pallbearers are Jimmy Lane, and Joey Sandifer.
Rene was born on August 14, 1940, in Summerville, S. C. He was the son of the late Rene Abraham Mizell, Sr. and the late Bessie Mae Myers Mizell. He was a member of Jerusalem United Methodist Church in Elloree. Rene served in United States Army and was a veteran of the Vietnam War. He retired from Myer Industries after 30 years of service as a technician assembler. Rene enjoyed dirt race car driving in his younger years, fishing, and he was also great at shag dancing.
Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Corrie Lee Mizell; children, Kimberly Mizell Asbury (Jeff), Brenda Brickle Smoak, (Jerry), Michael Lee Mizell (Rosa), Randell Rene Skinner, Carol Brickle Runnells (Rich), Richard Edward Brickle (Joan), Randy Brickle, 13 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the Mabry Cancer Center at 1161 Cook Rd., Orangeburg, S. C. 29118.
