Richard Lee Austin, 72, of Orangeburg passed away on Wednesday, March 12, 2025, with his loving family by his side.
Richard was born on November 2, 1952, at Crawford W. Long Hospital in Atlanta, GA. He was the son of the late Rubin Austin and the late Margaret Poole Traynam. Richard grew up in North West Atlanta in a development called Grove Park. He moved to Orangeburg, S.C. in July of 1982. Richard was an active member in church whether singing in the choir or teaching Sunday School. He enjoyed many hobbies including playing the guitar, singing, golf, playing with his grandbabies and fishing. Richard was an avid Georgia Bulldog fan.
He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend. His family was his entire world. Richard also loved his work family. He worked with RMC for over 14 years where he was an integral member of the Emergency Department team. He was preceded in death by his parents, a grandson, Jacob McLellan and a brother, Gene Austin.
Survivors include his wife of over 43 years, Joyce Johnson Austin; daughters, Sheryl Austin McRoy (Patrick), Jackie Austin Hair (Chris); grandchildren, Jordan Gallman (Kyle), Kasey Hair, Austin Hair, Jacob McLellan; great-grandchildren, Rowan Gallman, Holland Hair, River Gallman, Ryan Gallman; brother, James Austin (Marie) and many additional family and friends.
A memorial service celebrating Richard’s life will be held at 1:00 P.M. on Saturday, March 22, 2025, at Ebenezer Baptist Church, 3144 Cordova Road, Cordova. Rev. Brian Self and Dr. Shane Stutzman will be officiating.
The family will receive friends from 11:00 A.M. until 1:00 P.M. on Saturday, March 22, 2025, at Ebenezer Baptist Church prior to the service.
