Richard Paul Whiles

Richard Paul Whiles, 68, formerly of Summerville, passed away on Monday, November 1, 2021. A private family "Celebration of Life"  will be held. Mr. Whiles was born on April 19, 1953, in Lebanon Indiana.  He was the son of the late Woodrow and Emily Eastham Whiles.  His career in research and safety began with 26 years at Westvaco Corp. Mr. Whiles had a love of nature and the water.  His passion turned into an additional profession, where he served as a Master Captain, taking passengers on tours on Lake Marion in Santee.  He loved taking pictures of nature and animals.  He was predeceased by his parents and brother, Russell Whiles. Survivors include his wife Barbara Ann Whiles; daughter Lori W. Duncan (Brad); grandsons, Austin T. Mizzell (Elizabeth) and Brandon T. Mizzell; great-grandchildren, Sophia Green, Karley Mizzell, Emmerie Mizzell; brother, Ron Whiles (Lynn); sisters, June Dorn, Donna Carter (Sam); a number of nieces and nephews and his best friend and fur baby, "Hachi". In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the S.C. Wildlife Federation at 455 St. Andrews Road, Suite B1, Columbia, S.C. 29210.
