Rita Gail Thompson

Rita Gail Thompson, 74, passed away on Monday, June 6, 2016 at Riverside Rehab and Healthcare in Orangeburg. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Thursday, June 9, 2016 at Thompson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Alan Woodward officiating. Burial will follow at Crestlawn Memorial Gardens in Orangeburg.

Mrs. Thompson was born on November 27, 1941 in Orangeburg, S.C. She was the daughter of the late George H. Lightfoot and the late Lunette Murden Lightfoot. Mrs. Thompson graduated from the Practical Nursing Program at Orangeburg Calhoun Technical College. She worked as a Licensed Practical Nurse at Orangeburg Nursing Home until she retired. She was a church and choir member of Mount Carmel Baptist Church in the Jamison Community.

Survivors include her daughter Deborah (Michael) Rutland of Neeses; son, James Derek Thompson of Orangeburg; grandsons, Michael Jennings of Cope, Chuck Thompson of Orangeburg, Chris Thompson of Bamberg and Jeremy Metts of Neeses; 1 step-grandson, Ryan Rutland of Neeses; friend, Bessie Myers of Orangeburg; sister, Mary Jane Lightfoot of Pinehill; niece Andrea (James) Kuhnert of Pinehill and great-niece Shawna Dortch of Pinehill.

Visitation will be held from 6:00-8:00 P.M. on Wednesday, June 8, 2016 at Thompson Funeral Home, Inc. in Orangeburg
