Ruby Nell Jeffcoat Livingston Smith, a loving mother, wife, grandmother, great-grandmother, great-great grandmother and devoted servant of God, peacefully passed away at her home on June 7, 2025, at the age of 101. She was caring and compassionate, leaving a legacy of faith. Her devotion to God was demonstrated through her devotion to her church and her encouragement of her grand and great grandchildren to seek involvement in a church family.
Ruby Nell served many years caring for the needs of others as a nursing assistant at Orangeburg Regional Hospital. She retired to care for her parents and after their deaths continued caregiving by serving the needs of others in the community.
In her early years she was a passionate fisherman introducing her grandchildren to this love. She was fortunate to travel with a tour group visiting many places throughout the world. In her later years, she spent time with friends playing canasta, doing water aerobics, participating in choir and meeting for lunch.
She was predeceased by her parents, Tallie and Queenie Jeffcoat, first husband Jacob Shelby Livingston, second husband, James Benson “Bink” Smith, daughter and son in law, Delaine Livingston and Dennis Eugene McAlhaney and siblings, Willa Dean, Dorothy”Dot”, and Malcolm.
Ruby Nell is survived by her grandchildren, Danny (Danette) McAlhaney, Dawn (Keith) Rizer, and David (Kim) McAlhaney, great-grandchildren, Jonathan (Samantha) Rizer, Holly (Nikki) Shaarda, Tallie (John) McDowell, A.J., James, and Allison McAlhaney; great-great grandchildren, John Mac Rizer, Dale McDowell, and several nieces and a very close friend, David Farr.
The family would like to thank Christa Bell Rice and Merlyn Moses for the excellent care and companionship they provided in her final years which allowed her to stay at home. They are also thankful for the care provided by Gentive Hospice Staff with special thanks to Myra Ardis.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to First Baptist Church at 1240 Russell Street, Orangeburg, S.C. 29115.
The family will receive friends from 5:00-7:00 P.M. on Tuesday, June 10, 2025, at Thompson Funeral Home Chapel, 1012 Whitman Street, Orangeburg.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Wednesday, June 11, 2025, at Thompson Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Ryan Tucker will be officiating. Burial will follow at Riverside cemetery in North, S.C.
