Mrs. Sammie Patricia Gaines , 79 died Monday, January 30, 2017 at the Regional Medical Center.
A Graveside Service will be held 1:00 PM Friday, February 3, 2017 at the Old Union Cemetery near Cope with Rev. Lois Helms and Rev. Fred McDaniel directed by Thompson Funeral Home, Inc. in Orangeburg.
She was born February 15, 1937 in Cope, SC; the daughter of the late Hydrick Carson and the late Gertrude Sweatman Carson. She was a nurse’s aide at Bamberg Hospital, Jolley Acres Healthcare Center and Riverside Rehabilitation. Mrs. Gaines was a member of Union United Methodist Church in Cope. She enjoyed gardening, fishing and loved spending time at Edisto Beach. She was the widow of the late Fred C. Gaines, Jr.
Survivors include 2 daughters; Susannah Mount and Shawn Stoltz; Mary Ann Schostag and Tim Noe all of Cope; a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, step-grandchildren and step great grandchildren; a sister; Mary Brown Scott of Tucson, AZ; a niece; Patricia Drummond and a nephew; Tony Doar both of Tucson, AZ; 2 step-daughters; Linda Johnson of Cordova and Sandra Hoffman of Georgia.
Visitation will be held 6:00 to 8:00 PM Thursday, February 2, 2017 at Thompson Funeral Home, Inc. in Orangeburg.
