Samuel "Sam" Anthony Arant

Samuel “Sam” Anthony Arant, 68, of Fort Motte, died Saturday, June 12, 2021, at home after a lengthy illness.

A graveside service will be held at 6:00 p.m., Friday, June 18, at the Arant  Cemetary across from the St. Matthews Parish Church in Fort Motte, with Pastor Wesley Brown officiating.

Pallbearers will be Ricky Edwards, Bill Boykin, Joe Miers, Chris Fogle, Randy Fogle and Blake Prince.

Born on August 31, 1952, in Orangeburg Hospital, he was the son of the late Thomas D. Arant Jr. and Helen Murray Arant.  He graduated from Clemson University with Honors in 1974.  Sam worked for Blu-Gas Company in St. Matthews for a number of years, then for the Coulter Clinic lab in Orangeburg.  In the early 1970’s Sam and several friends formed “Poochie”, a rock and roll band, but changed the name to “Jackson-Wheeler” in 1975 and continued to play in the South Carolina area until 1985.

Sam’s brother Tom predeceased him, but he is survived by his sister-in-law, Kam Arant, his brother Alan D. (Sherry) Arant, nephews Austin Arant and Aaron (Kristy) Arant and one great-nephew Zachray Arant.
