Sheila Marie (Rutland) Murphy

Sheila Marie Rutland Murphy, age 61, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, January 18, 2025, after a courageous battle with trigeminal neuralgia and multiple sclerosis.

Sheila was born on March 16, 1963, in Orangeburg, SC, to Edgar Cecil Rutland, Jr., and Celester Stone Rutland. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Garry Williams Murphy, and her mother, Celester Stone Rutland. She is survived by her devoted son, Lester Brandon Murphy (Amanda) of Round O, SC, and cherished grandson, William Murphy, who brought her immense joy. She also leaves behind her father, Edgar Rutland of Orangeburg, SC; her sister, Melissa Rutland Burke (Michael) of Hoover, AL; her nephew, Austin Burke; and loving cousins and friends.

Sheila was a proud 1981 graduate of Wade Hampton Academy in Orangeburg, SC, and attended The Airline Academy in Ormond Beach, FL. She was a longtime resident of Ladson, SC, where she lovingly raised her son and built lasting friendships that she treasured.

Sheila found joy in the simple, beautiful moments of life. She loved spending peaceful days on Lake Greenwood, watching the hummingbirds, and creating precious memories with her grandson. Her warmth, kindness, and boundless love touched everyone who knew her. She was a devoted mother, Nana, daughter, sister, and friend whose presence will be deeply missed but fondly remembered.

A Celebration of Sheila’s Life will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, January 25, 2025, at Thompson Funeral Home in Orangeburg, SC. The family will receive visitors beginning at 1 p.m.
