Shirley (Rutland) Lovern

May 3, 1931 — June 15, 2020

Shirley R. Lovern, 89, of Orangeburg passed away on Monday, June 15, 2020.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Wednesday, June 17, 2020 at Memorial Park Cemetery in Orangeburg with CDC guidelines for COVID-19.  Rev. Larry Williams will be officiating.

Pallbearers will be Mrs. Shirley’s grandsons.

Mrs. Lovern was born on May 3, 1931 in Orangeburg County.  She was the daughter of the late Carlos Clarence Rutland and the late Essie Lou Baltzegar Rutland. She was an active member of St. John United Methodist Church where she was a Sunday school teacher and the U.M.W. president for many years. Mrs. Shirley was retired from Southern Bell. She was predeceased by her husband, Ralph “Pete” Lovern; brother, Leland L. Rutland; sister, Juanita R. Branham McCormick; grandson, Melvin Lovern and a granddaughter, Cherri Riley.

Survivors include her children, Byron Lovern (Diane), Robert Lovern (Cathy), Larry Lovern, Sheron Ayers (Larry); grandchildren, Michelle Shaw (Steve), Jonathan Williamson, Chris Lovern (Robin), Jason Lovern (Jessica), Matt Lovern (Catherine), Mitchell Lovern; step-grandchildren, Tracey Ayers Carson, Cathryn Herndon, Jervey Ayers; sixteen great-grandchildren; four great-great grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to St. Johns United Methodist Church at P.O. Box 56 Cope, SC 29038-0056.
