Stanley Jacob Niziol ,86 of 1752 Sunset Street NE, Orangeburg SC died Thursday March 7,2013 at The Regional Medical Center.

Services will be held Thursday March 14,2013 at Thompson Funeral Home Inc. with Rev. Paul Hamilton officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery.

He was born February 14, 1927 in Utica, New York; the son of the late Jacob Stanley Niziol and the late Sadie Mikus Niziol. He attended St. Mary's Elementary Catholic School for 8 years in New York, NY; he graduated from Whitesboro Central High School in Whitesboro, NY in 1944. Fresh out of High School he was signed to a baseball contract as a left-handed pitcher with the Philadelphia Phillies and was assigned to a minor league in Pennsylvania. However, recurring arm problems ended a promising career. He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was a veteran of the Korean War in 1950. He was a past member of VFW Post 2779 and the Hillcrest Golf Club; he was an active member of Bator Post #21 in New York Mills, NY. He worked 44 years with Utica Tool Company in the Production Control Department retiring in 1993. He was active in softball, baseball, basketball, bowling, golf and fishing. He was preceded in death by his step-mother; Sophie Babiarz Niziol.

Survivors include his wife; Alice F. Niziol of the home; 2 daughters; Lynn Marie Niziol of Mesa, Arizona and Stephanie Anne Shuler of Lexington, SC; 2 sisters; Janet Peterson of Tulsa, OK and Jacqueline Terchowitz of New York Mills, NY and 1 brother; Jacob S. Niziol of Fayetteville, NY and 4 nieces and 7 nephews.

Visitation will be held 6:00 to 8:00 PM Wednesday, March 13, 2013 at Thompson Funeral Home, Inc. in Orangeburg.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Any Abused Women and Children's Organization.
