Vernon Lerue Skinner, Jr.

Vernon LeRue Skinner, Jr., 63 of Norway passed away on Friday, March 14, 2025, at MUSC in Charleston from heart failure with his family by his side.

Vernon was born on July 31, 1961, at the Orangeburg Hospital.  He was the son of the late Vernon LeRue, Sr. and the late Doris Crout Skinner of Orangeburg, S.C.  Vernon was the owner and operator of Edisto Fence Company for over 40 years where he installed fencing and automatic gate openers.  Vernon was a very hard worker and absolutely loved his job.  He took pride in everything he did.  He had many hobbies.  Vernon enjoyed working on and driving muscle cars.  He had to give them the “Skinner touch.”  Vernon loved to be outside, feeding the fish, watching the birds or just sitting on the porch enjoying his coffee on a beautiful day.  At night he would always look out of the kitchen window to see the flying squirrels, but one of his favorite things to do was spending time with his German Shepherds, “King”, Faith” and ”Shadow.”  He loved his family and spoiled them ALL.  Vernon was a member of Bethel Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife of 37 years, Angie B. Skinner of the home; sons, W. “Gage” (Kayla) Skinner, Spencer Skinner; seven grandchildren, Carmen Skinner, Vince Skinner, Wendell Skinner, Grace Skinner, Ruth Skinner, LeeNa Skinner, LeRue Skinner; sisters, Brenda (Peter) Urban, Gail Levensteim, Carol (Freddy) Felder; brother, Christopher (Meredith) Skinner; additional brothers  Barry Brunson and Warren Brunson and an additional sister, Robin Brunson and a number of additional family and friends.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, his parents, his mother and father-in-law, Dock and Sybil Brunson and a brother-in-law, George Brunson.

Funeral services will be held at 5:00 P.M. on Sunday, March 16, 2025, at Bethel Baptist Church, 3705 Cope Road, between Norway and Cope.  Pastor Charlie Snipes will be officiating.  Burial will follow at the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 4:00-5:00 P.M. on Sunday, March 16, 2025, at Bethel Baptist Church prior to the funeral service.

Honored to serve as pallbearers are Keith Thompson, Dave Griggs, Ralph Griffin, Joey Tomlinson, Rayfort Moore, Glenn Mobley, Stanley Baker, and Brad Thomas.

Honorary pallbearers will be the members round table at Kathy’s, Mac Livingston, Ricky Union, James Sanford, Dubby Martin, Mike Martin, Ricky Zeigler, Danny Mixson, Billy Holman, Mark Chavis, and Rick Collins.
