Virginia (Sweatman) Hutto

Virginia Sweatman Hutto, 87, of Bamberg passed away on Friday, December 20, 2024.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. on Sunday, December 22, 2024, at Thompson Funeral Home Chapel, 1012 Whitman Street, Orangeburg.  Rev. Greg Dowey and Rev. Alan Woodward will be officiating.  Burial will follow at Canaan Baptist Church, 4977 Canaan Bridge Road, Cope.

The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 P.M. on Saturday, December 21, 2024, at Thompson Funeral Home Chapel, 1012 Whitman Street, Orangeburg.

Honored to serve as pallbearers are Robbie Evans, Logan Evans, Hunter Hutto, Jay Hughes, Randy Sandifer and Bill Priester.

Mrs. Hutto was born on March 27, 1937, in Orangeburg County.  She was the daughter of the late Marcus E. Sweatman and the late Mary L. Champy.  She was a seamstress for many years.  Mrs. Hutto enjoyed working in her yard planting flowers.  She was a loving mother, “Ginger” and “Grammy” she will be forever missed.  She was preceded in death by her parents, the father of her children, Joseph “Bo Jack” Hutto, Sr., a daughter, Pamela Dantzler, brothers, M.E. Sweatman, Clarence Sweatman, sisters, Mary Dahler, Janie Mims, Meray Sutcliffe, Julia Ann Sweatman, and Leilia Jackson.

Survivors include her son, Joseph E. Hutto, Jr. (Jimmielynn); grandchildren, Kaylyn Elton (Scott), Hunter Briceson Hutto; great-grandchildren, Samantha Elton, Conner Elton; sisters, Lola Martin, Aubrey Sandifer and a number of nieces and nephews.
