William Preston Rickenbaker III, affectionately known as "Preston" to his family and friends, passed away on Thursday, October 15, 2026, at the age of 45, just days before his 46th birthday.
Born on October 31, 1980, Preston was a beloved son, father, brother, uncle, nephew, and friend. His passing leaves an immeasurable void in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
Preston found happiness in life's simple pleasures. He loved spending time outdoors, especially fishing, where he could enjoy the peace and beauty of nature. He also had a special place in his heart for his beloved dogs, Bizkit and Gravy, who brought him endless companionship and joy. Whether he was casting a fishing line or simply spending time playing with his dogs, these were the moments that brought him happiness.
Preston is survived by his loving parents, William Preston Rickenbaker Jr. and Stacey Rickenbaker; his cherished children, Madison Rickenbaker and Korbin Rickenbaker; and his special friend and mother of his children, Jessica Brandemuehl. He is also survived by his sisters, Mandy (Nathaniel) Reitz and Melissa (Thomas) Dixon.
He is lovingly remembered by his nephews, Gabriel and Liam Reitz and Jaden McDaniel; his niece, Brittney McDaniel; his paternal grandparents, George and Nancy Hutto; and his maternal grandparents, Marilyn and Michael Bunch.
Preston is also lovingly remembered by his aunts, Pamela (Greg) McIntosh and Jennifer (Brad) Amerson; and his uncles, Keith (Marie) Hutto, Stephen (Pui) Hutto, and Michael Rickenbaker. His memory will forever be cherished by his extended family and the many friends whose lives he touched.
Preston was preceded in death by his beloved sister, Maranda Rickenbaker; his paternal grandfather, William Preston Rickenbaker; his maternal grandmother, Shelby Budde; his paternal great-grandmother, Evelyn Williamson; his maternal uncle, George Hutto Jr.; and his paternal cousin, Brandon Rickenbaker.
The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 P.M. on Thursday, October 22, 2026, at Thompson Funeral Home Chapel, 1012 Whitman Street Orangeburg.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00 A.M. on Friday, October 23, 2026, at Andrew Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery, 210 Andrew Chapel Road, Swansea. Rev. Henry Cooper will be officiating.
Although Preston's life ended far too soon, the love and memories he leaves behind will last a lifetime. His family will forever treasure the moments they shared, the laughter, and the simple joys that made him who he was. While his absence will be deeply felt, his memory will live on through his children, his family, and everyone who had the privilege of knowing him.
