Charles McMillan Obituary

Charles W. McMillan, 80, passed away on Sunday, May 14, 2023, surrounded by his loving family.

A Celebration of Life visitation will be held on Saturday, May 20, 2023, from 11:00 A.M. until 1:00 P.M. at Thompson Funeral Home, 4720 Augusta Road, Lexington, S.C.

Mr. McMillan was born on October 19, 1942, in Charleston, S.C.  He was the son of the late George McMillan and the late Norma Kitchens McMillan.  He was preceded in death by his parents, a son, Charles “Chip” McMillan, Jr. and a brother, Kenny McMillan.

Survivors include his sons, Christopher “Todd” McMillan (Donna Griffin), Toby McMillan (Libby); grandchildren, Caleb McMillan, Hannah McMillan, Emily McMillan; a great-grandson, Jasper McMillan; brother Mike McMillan; his longtime companion, Barbara McConnell and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Wayne was married to the love of his life for 42 when she passed away in 2003.  They enjoyed a beautiful life and love together.  They enjoyed doing everything together and with their family, the true definition of love.

He had a long career at Norfolk Southern Railway.  Once retired, he moved to a beautiful spot of family land on the Edisto River in Cordova, SC.  Here he was again surrounded by family and friends.  He was able to enjoy doing things he so loved to do.  He was an avid hunter, fisherman and all-around outdoorsman.  He would spend the year looking forward to his next annual fishing trip to Florida with his close friends.

He shared his love of fishing and the outdoors with his grandson Caleb. His grandson became his new best fishing buddy, while his granddaughters hung the moon and stars.  All three of his grandchildren adored their grandfather and cherished every moment with him.

The latest addition to the McMillan family is Caleb’s son, Jasper.  Wayne was amazed and delighted the day he laid his eyes on his great grandson. There is just no better love than a grandparent has for their grandchildren.

All the great many friends and family have so many wonderful stories to tell.  Everyone loved Wayne and he could feel that love.  Barbara was with him as his partner for many years and she adored every minute she had with him.  Her stories of adventure can make you see Wayne’s fun and carefree side.
