Former Chief Michael A. Adams

Former Chief Michael Anthony Adams, 59, passed away unexpectedly on September 8, 2023, at MUSC-Orangeburg. He was born June 30th, 1964, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the son of Helga Busse and Joseph Brabham Adams. He attended Holly Hill High School and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from the University of South Carolina. He was chosen to attend the FBI National Academy as a member of their 237th session. After 35 years of service, he retired as the Director of Public Safety for the City of Orangeburg. As the 100th president of the Rotary Club of Orangeburg, he was a recipient of the Paul Harris Fellow award and exemplified their motto of service above self.

Michael enjoyed a love of deep-sea fishing, scuba diving, hunting and traveling throughout the world. He will be remembered for his sense of duty, honor, courage, and commitment. He leaves behind his beloved wife, Delcie Adams with whom he shared 27 years of marriage and his children, Courtney Adams, Megan Adams, and Alex Arends. He is also survived by his brother, Mark Adams and wife Libby Adams, his in laws Ronald Milhouse Sr. and Patricia Milhouse, his brother-in-law, Ronald Milhouse Jr., his sister-in-law, Mickey Whisenhunt, as well as a number of nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents Helga Busse and Joseph Brabham Adams.

 A private celebration of life event will be held at a later date.
