Frances “Fran” R. Griffin, 91, of Neeses passed away on Wednesday, November 1, 2023, with her sister by her side.
Fran was born in Orangeburg County to the late John Henry Varnes and the late Sennie Walling Varnes. She graduated from Willow High School, now known as HKT in 1950. After high school she worked for several years with Southern Bell as a telephone operator. She decided she wanted to serve her country, so she enlisted in the United States Air Force. Fran was employed with a local insurance company for the remainder of her employment years until her retirement. Fran was a Faithful member of Bethel Baptist Church for over 50 years. She served in many capacities including church secretary and church treasurer. Though she had no biological children, she was a mother and grandmother to so many children over the years. In her spare time, she enjoyed fishing, hunting, and working in her yard. Every year she looked forward to hanging her hummingbird feeders and waiting for them to come. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jack R. Griffin, sister, Gladys V. Adcox, brothers, Henry “Buster” Horace Varnes and Samson “Mac” MacArthur Varnes.
Survivors include her sister, Gertie Spires; a number of nieces and nephews and her fur baby, “Sammie.”
